Description
Enrollment in the TSG Professional Academy course Culturally Competent Mental Health Care for Black Men in the Justice System.
This 3.0-hour practice-centered continuing education course helps behavioral health, substance use, counseling, social work, peer support, case management, reentry, supervision, and justice-system professionals move from cultural awareness to usable clinical and recovery practice.
Signature framework: learners use the C.A.R.E. model — Context before conclusion, Alliance before disclosure, Recovery Capital before relapse plan, and Ethical Advocacy before reporting — across intake, engagement, substance-use assessment, treatment planning, documentation, reentry, supervision, and court/probation communication.
The course incorporates Dr. Kerry L. Shipman’s Keep the Family Close dissertation lens by translating family/community support, belonging, identity repair, recovery capital, and reentry stability into provider actions. Applied cases require learners to write engagement language, objective documentation, recovery-support plans, and consultation decisions.
Included: structured course lessons, downloadable PowerPoint Guide, C.A.R.E. practice framework, applied case lab, 20-question final post-test, required course evaluation and completion attestation, and a verifiable TSG Professional Academy Certificate of Completion. A score of at least 80% is required on the final assessment.
NCASPPB Approval: 26-546-C — Up to 3 total hours of either GSB or SS (EBT or ETHICS). This course is approved by the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB) for continuing education credit.
